Are you giving your power away to the wrong coach or mentor?

sales podcast in itunes on mentors and coachingToday’s podcast is about the risks associated with mentoring and coaching. I have personally seen too many people give their power away or get off track from their own personal values by selecting the wrong coach or mentor.

This podcast talks about the difference between certification and qualification. It also talks about how we may want to select and mentor or coach in the future. If you like what I have to say or you disagree please comment, I would like your feedback.

  • You hit the mail on the hit in your podcast. Selecting the right coach for you is so important and should not be based on which coach will promise you the most.
  • I think that the best mentor is the best producer and that is what you want to learn, that's what makes you money,or successfull, whatever your going for.
  • Nice podcast, Shane. I used to be a big skeptic about "certified" coaches - I met so many who seemed to be the naked folks offering shirts. My first coaching experience happened almost by accident, but ended up being the right dialogue at the right time in my life.

I think finding a coach isn't necessarily so much about looking at certifications, but finding somebody who you can connect with for the next step in your development. It's got to be somebody who resonates with your values, and most importantly celebrates your strengths. I don't want a coach - and I do not want to BE a coach - who focuses on "fixing" problems.

Above all, a coach has to be somebody who you can really laugh with. Because life is awfully full of moments worth laughing about!
