In my seminars I often refer to the fact that the best tools on the internet are free.  So is some of the best content, lessons, and guidance. So when I heard Chris Anderson (author of The Longtail) on the Managing the Gray Podcast talking about his new book I was pretty fired up. Today (thanks to a heads up from Fred Shadian) Chris has released several free versions of his book prior to the book launch of July 9th.  I’m watching Chris closely as giving out free versions of Sociable is part of Stephen Jagger and my plans for our book launch later this Summer and it’s nice to have someone blaze the trail for you!

Chris’ strategy on charging for abridged versions is interesting, he says:

Why is the whole book free in audio form, but half the book is $7.49? (FREE ABRIDGED VERSION HERE) [note from Shane] Because, as the Audible.com listing explains,“Get the point in half the time! In this abridged edition, the author handpicked the most important and engaging chapters and points, cutting three hours from the length without losing key concepts. Time is money!”
